Well, if she’s blogging about it, then so will I!
Chapter 7 of The Project is now pretty much completed.
The original drawing took about 3 hours to complete. Started off with some cautious outlines. I don’t usually begin drawing like this — I’ll typically plunge right in and correct any off-looking lines or sections later. Then again, I started drawing in the early morning, and the caffeine probably hadn’t caught on yet as it has by the time it’s 5pm.
Upon adding in the black area’s, I scanned it, and applied some corrections here and there. TW’s face specifically needed some cosmetic attention. With the exception of that trademark-underlip and the hair, his face is not very easy to draw, at least for me…
And then along came Gaby with some seriously cool background imagery to finish it off…
Next up: “Frank’s Wild Years“.
This is an awesome piece! I am a HUGE waits fan (I run http://www.tomwaitsfan.com) and am definately looking forward to seeing more in reference to this project! Thanks for dropping it in your blog! If you dont mind I would love to link you and the project up on my main page.
btw:I found this via Flickr
Josiah: thanks for your kind comment! Feel free to link up this weblog and the Flickr set on your main page — we need any publicity we can get. ;-)
They’re all great, but my absolute favourite is the top one. I love the way it looks with just the face and hands worked up and just contour lines for the rest.
You have a point Julie. I must’ve thought the same way as I felt I should take a picture of the drawing while it was still “unfinished”. That’s something I hardly ever do. Pity I didn’t scan it instead…
